Teaching Exceptional Children

This website was creative to give educators and parents an understanding of the basic components of special education within our schools. The site contains information of IDEA 2004, the most updated disabiltiy law through federal mandates. This site displays and explains the basic forms utilized in special education in Virginia schools. These forms were taken from the Viriginia state Department of Education website, so your school district's forms may differ from what is shown. Also presented here is an overview of nine catagories of disability: providing basic definitions, characteristics, teaching methods, and resources.

Use the links on the top of the page to move between pages. The individual pages for the disabiliy catagories can be found on the catagories page.

These pages are meant as a guideline, for more specific information contact the groups listed as resources for each disability, the special education office for your local school district, or your child's doctor.
